Individual Therapy
In general, I see children to work on issues the child or parent identifies as important for change. My approach to individual work stems from training in systems, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and interpersonal psychotherapy. This simply means that I am flexible and can adjust to individual personalities and goals. Some examples of my work include:
-
implementing a cognitive-behavioral-based reward/punishment system to improve behavior or attention and training parents and teachers in how to use it
-
exploring a young adult client's history of loss and unconscious fear of abandonment
-
working with a mom and her adolescent to reach compromises on limits and privileges at home
-
talking about current needs and dilemmas with a child or adolescent where, through our relationship, the child feels understood and develops her own solutions to problems
-
helping a child work through his fears and worries through play
